True, it's kind of why we have been doing things the way we have, just a little bit at a time. I would be scared to add everything up that we have paid over the last 9 years, wouldn't have been able to do it financially either.

Little by little.  Don't want to drown in time/work/expense with too much all at once. Plus I want it to be enjoyable for us.  Really just want a have dozen chickens and two goats to start.  Omelets and weed eaters.

the only thing that concerns me about getting a goat (which my wife has given me the all clear with) is escaping and how stubborn they can be.

What are your plans with a goat?  Are you gonna get a male or a female?    Is it gonna be just a pet?  Or are you gonna milk it?

Now keep in mind I have small Nigerian Dwarf goats but from what I have learned through the last 2 yrs is....

If you want a goat as a pet I would get a weather.  They don't go into heat or rut and do not stink. They also are pretty mellow. At least the one I have is.  You can train em like dogs and IMO a full grown "Dwarf" male goat with a beard and full on horns is cool!!

Milking..  A female is pretty chill as well. They go through heat cycles and can be noisey but overall the ones I have are great.

Breeding uncut male.  They stink and are assholes but in a goat kinda way. I wouldn't want a full size un cut male that would be more than I would want to deal with.  My Nigerian Dwarf is about the size of a German Shepherd so he is manageable. The only think about him is he pisses all over himself when the girls go into heat and it STINKS!!!  He is def the boss though!!

Oh and as far as escaping goes if the pen is big enough they wont bother once they know they cant. Well in my opinion anyway. Especially a weather.

My fence is 5 ft tall " plenty high for a Dwarf Goat" and my pen is 30 by 80 and they seem fine. You need stuff for them to climb on and stuff to keep them from being bored.

But do not be fooled. If there is a way they can get out they WILL find it!  Just like the guy said talking about the Raptors in Jurassic Park " They don't test the fence in the same place twice....they remember......  🙂
