so newsettler was over yesterday smoking his road kill, when he called me and said your cows are on the porch, by the time I got back there, my wife had scared them down, so my dad and I were sitting there just watching them, and one jumped up by my dads cabin, so I went over and shooed it down, my wife came outside and said, you guys need to keep a eye on them, just as she said that, one of them jumped up the other side of the wall, so they quickly went back into the field, need to figure out something if we are going to do this, I think I'm going to run electric in the back field to get them use to it again, then run a strand across the front of the wall

The dogs like playing with them

lol, the pug followed me down to the field when I took them back, I walked up to the house and my wife said, where's jasper?

I looked down in the field, and there he was running circles around the cows, seems I got to put some chicken wire along the bottom of the gate so the pug doesn't get through

Can you post a before and after of your yard now that the cows have been out there? I am wondering how much of an effect they have had on the grass and if they really keep the grass down. Thanks!

they've only been out a few times since we put the gate in, we worked both days since we did it, I was concerned about leaving them out in the yard alone when no one was back at the house, seems my concerns were valid, but I do have a picture from when we first let them in the field to what it looks like today, let me look for it

No rush. I think it would be compelling to show how much they have taken down some grass in a defined area.

BTW when you do butcher those two guys?

this is how overgrown it was when got them

this is what it looks like this morning

in this pic, you can see how overgrown the pine tree is in the left corner and all the bushes and such in the field

here it is this morning, the cows like to chill under the pine

if we let them graze for about a month, I think they would have it pretty well clipped

we will keep them till next fall
