I would agree (even as I consider myself younger) just make sure that you get one hat hoses off well. You won't be using coolant but you'll still collect oils and plenty of chips. Probably best to go black.

What does the DRO do? I'm not sure what the capabilities of such a machine are.

Just helps with accuray, doing it by hand and eyeballing the dials it can be easy to off track by a thousandths, espicially with backlash or slop if you do not account for it, backlash is the amount you turn before the feed engages, so say if your machine has 5 thousandths of a back lash and you zero out your machine and you need to make a 20 thousandth cut, if you don't account for the 5 backlash and do your cut at 20, your actual cut is 15, you would need to cut to 25 to get the 20 and account for the backlash. A dro takes care of all that, it doesn't start registering until you actually move on the x,y or z axis

for extra stability we bolted down the machine through the holes that were used for shipping today

newsettler and I spent the next couple hours cleaning it, oiling and greasing the gears. We then had to do a run in on it at 1000 rpm for 15 minutes.

we are ready to start making stuff

Wow! Never even heard of that feature. Always used math. Apparently that's a waste of time
