I dug the swales for my small food forest
*wish I had a mini-excavator*
I dug them both today. I seeded them with vetch, clover and a legume. Then I mulched with straw and watered them. I moved the location of the almond I planted last fall into the center of the lower swale. Hopefully the rest of my trees and shrubs will get delivered soon!Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Nice. I look forward to seeing them develop.

we got 2 apples, 2 plums, 2 pawpaws, an almond and a 2-in-1 cherry.
gonna put a siberian pea shrub in the hole with each tree for nitrogen fixation.
The cherry is gonna go on the other side of the property near my existing 2 yr old sweet cherry. I'll put 3 goumi shrubs with them.
Still debating where to plant the seaberries and honeyberry plants. I dont think they're going into the swale system. I may have to dig another one on the sunny side of the garden since seaberries like the full sun. The lower swale in the picture is protected from the hottest part of the western sun, so the pawpaws should do well there since they're really an understory tree.

I got mine at Stark brothers nursery.
I believe you can order them from Jonathan Bates (Paradise Lot) also:
