I saw the you mentioned a chicken tractor. This is what we built last spring.
We took the design from this book.
This book is good it has some good things to build in it. We have built a few things from it.
Do you have any fox or weasel in your area? I'm wondering if those have ever attempted to dig under the bottom to get access to chickens?

Have you tried electric fencing?
Our property is too 'complicated' for electric fencing - lots of slope, plenty of brush and dogs that would go right thru it too. Here's how we garden just so we get to have something to eat! -
Without near total caging, the ground squirrels, deer and birds would feast before we did. And our ground is so dry, electric fencing is questionable too. Tain't no easy way .

The previous owner of our place planted thousands of pine trees. We got an article in the paper, I made a posting on Craigslist, and put some signs on the end of the road. We made ~$1,400 selling trees this past weekend. They are kind of wild and natural so not sure how many more I will sell over the next few weekends. Enough to cover fencing for the cattle in the spring, I imagine.
KVR, we need to talk cattle. I want to ship some out from Maine.
