I'm grabbing a new pair of running shoes this weekend, and I'll start logging some miles next week.
I'll give it a week or so and then log my first mile time and some of the other metrics.

I'm kind of in the same boat.  I was a mediocre blue (at best) and have struggled with whether I should "start over".  I think the overall consensus is that you keep it and just keep chugging along.  At the end of a day, I guess that's a question/discussion for you and your instructor.  Also, welcome to the "I can beat Mike Tyson club."  :)

anyone using myfitness pal? It really help with tracking, this guy got awesome results

My plan:

    Logging my food every day in MyFitnessPal (Calories 1620, tuned to lose 1.5 lbs. a week)
    Walking 3x a week for 30 minutes min.
    Support via family, friends, and TOPS

Day 150 ... lost 8 pounds since Day 120 ... seems to be a series of short plateaus now ...

Day 0 to Day 150

    BMI: 41.6 to 31.2
    WEIGHT: 298 to 224
    WALKING: 247 miles, 3 pair of shoes
    DIABETES HbA1C: 9.5 to 5.6 (2 months since last tested)
    PANTS: 46 to 40
    SHIRTS: 3XL to XL
    WAIST: 51" to 43"
    HEARTrest: 85-90 to 65-67 (up from last month)

Day 120

    BMI: 32.3
    WEIGHT: 232
    WALKING: 204 miles
    DIABETES HbA1C: 5.6
    PANTS: 40
    SHIRTS: XL
    WAIST: 44"
    HEARTrest: 58-62

Day 90

    BMI: 33.9
    WEIGHT: 243
    WALKING: 155 miles, 2 pairs of shoes
    DIABETES: HbA1C 5.6
    PANTS: 42
    SHIRTS: between a 2XL & XL
    WAIST: 46"
    HEARTrest: 58-65

Day 60

    BMI: 35.4
    WEIGHT: 254
    WALKING: 80 miles, wore holes in the backs of the shoes
    DIABETES: blood glucose from >150 to <70 mg/dL 2-h PPBS (less than 100 is good), stopped 3x daily insulin shots and 4 metformin  pills, taking zero diabetes meds now, HbA1C from 9.5 to 7.5 (a month ago)
    PANTS: loose 44
    SHIRTS: 2XL
    WAIST: 48"
    HEARTrest: 72-75
