Splitting firewood is a necessary evil if you want to heat your home or garage with a wood-stove. The process of splitting can be dangerous as you use smaller pieces of wood for kindling; an ax or maul can easily slip causing injury to a person if they are not too careful. This happened to 13 year-old Ayla Hutchinson’s mother when she cut herself while using a hatchet to split some kindling for the family home. The inventive Kiwi girl used the accident to design and build the kindling cracker for a school science project which has since gone on to win numerous awards.
The tool has a fairly self-explanatory name and allows a person to split kindling without the need of a sharpened blade. It is cast in metal, made in New Zealand and engineered to withstand a lifetime of abuse. Unfortunately for us in the US they are not available here yet, but this was posted to the companies facebook page yesterday.
To everyone in USA wanting to order Kindling Crackers. We are sorry for the delay, we are working on a few options and hope to have some news regarding USA supply in about two weeks.
Update 1/23/2016: The Kindling Cracker is now available from Northerntools.com. Stay warm!
