Who runs a dust collector? Do i really need to ground the pipe? I am seeing conflicting info on the web.

I was always taught Yes with metal collecting ducts. Kind of like a grain silo...a lot of dust goes boom easy...so, with dust along with potential for spark (from static electricity build up from friction) it's supposed to be good to ground.  I am no authority on this though...maybe this is something to test on Myth Busters...but I think all the dust and potential for static build up makes sense.

Thinking of ditching the drain tile and just using pvc, good discussion on it here with conflicting positions.

My wood shops have always had grounded dust collection. Simple enough thing to do to stop static combustion.
