Well we started by cutting a small piece to attach to the collector inlet
We just used some steel hanging strap to mount the pipe
we put an inlet above the welding table to help suck up smoke
And added one above the woodworking bench for future use, I dead ended it there in case of expansion needs later on.
Piped in above the metal bench.
And drilled holes above the lathe sections.
Not too shabby!
My brother built some back braces and strapped the vertical piece.
We pencil marked the joints and took it apart and glued it, most people don't glue it but will caulk the joints due to possible future changes but I don't really see any other different way of needing it. You just know this is going to come back and bite me in the rear!
Now I just need to ground the darn thing.
My nephew wanted to test the suction.
So my heater showed up today, newsettler had suggested in the other thread about shop heat with going with this unit
http://www.northernt....._200578579
the unit was much smaller than I expected
I decided to hang it in the corner by the stairwell, so I mounted the bracket
and opened up the bottom plate, the unit has 3 temp settings, 3000, 4000 and 5000 kw, it has a rudimentary thermostat where once you get to the temp you want dial it back till it shuts off and you now have your temp set
it is suppose to be direct wire but I decided to add a cord to it, the wiring is simple
just need to hook up the ground
I removed the panel cover, plenty of room for a 30 amp breaker
we had screwed down an access panel under the breaker box for future expansion so I unscrewed that
my original thought was to run the welder and heater off the same outlet but the heater recommends a 30 amp breaker versus a 50 amp for the welder, so I fed some wire and poked a hole out and added a surface mounted 30 amp dryer outlet
put the panel cover back on
and hung the heater
I let it run for several hours and the cabinet barely got warm, they recommend 13 inches of clearance on the sides and 7 in the back but I thought that was being very conservative since the only time it will be on is when I am in the shop, so I pushed it back further in the corner, still have roughly 12 inches on the sides and 4 in the back but I don't think it will be an issue.
It works awesome, so if you have under 400 square feet to heat take a look at these units
