Common sense got in the way.

So I think instead of building a new small solar shed I am going to buy a small rough sawn Amish deal and upgrade it to work. Something like this...

I can stain it and it is already on treated runners. I am going to have them tweak it a bit -- no windows, a third runner down the middle, and 2 doors -- a door at both gable ends. I am going to put up a wall in the middle and put the generator on one side and the solar stuff on the other. 6x8. Insulated and wired. Since I don't have to build this I hope it goes much faster -- even with the wiring and insulating. The shed itself will probably be ~$500. I am doing this because every shed plan I could find was $900+ in materials, easily, and would take up a lot of my time to build.

Thoughts? I was going to place the order today.

Yes, ordered. I placed the order yesterday for a 6x8 shed with double doors on the gable, green steel roof, on 3 treated 4x4 runners. Should be ready for pick up in 2 to 3 weeks. Then I get to make a new thread about how to dangerously trailer a shed home 40 miles.

In the meantime I am going to start cutting down trees tonight to prep where the 30x40 barn/parking pad is going to go. The ground is uneven so my plan is to...

1) Clear the area out of trees and brush as much as I can

2) Rake the area clear

3) Drag it a bit to lower the high spots

4) Put down weed fabric

5) Line the outside edges with railroad ties ($$$) or garden timbers ($)

6) Cover in ~4" to 6" of crushed stone

7) ? Do I need to tamp it down? Or just drive over it and park on it for a week or 2... which will most likely happen.

I am open to any advice or feedback. I didn't plan on removing the top soil because it would be covered with the weed fabric and keeping the stone above the grass.

First tree down last night. Was a large maple -- now it is stacked for next winters wood and the branches are in the burn pile. Stump is still pending as well as some of the poplars you see in the background.

How to load down a Ranger:
