Lots of usable space now! I think we're going to plant corn back there this year.

While I was in garden mode I figured I'd plant the 2.5 pounds of ramps I bought from our local farmer's store.

If anyone doesn't know what ramps are, they are like a wild onion garlicky sort of plant. They have a really strong flavor, but they are popular around here and people really like to cook deer with them so I figured picking some up to plant would be a good idea. Here's what they look like:

So I ran down the hill and grabbed some manure...

...and some sand from the creek bed.

Here's the raised bed I used. The far left side with the mulch in it is a bit deeper, and has potatoes in it. I used the central bed area for the ramps.

I dumped the manure, then sand an more manure on top, then I turned the mix and raked it out.

I planted them all pretty close. Ramps do produce seed but they spread by rhizomes as well so I wanted to keep them close.

They also grow in the woods in shady areas, so I decided to give them a nice watering and cover them with a double thickness of garden cloth. All done!

I figured since I was out there a few pics of how the garden is doing so far would be good as well. Here's a shot of the stuff we have started inside. It'll be ready to go out soon here. I think the weather is behind us so we should be ready to go!
