An Inexpensive Way To Homestead

Here is an inexpensive way to homestead that I came across yesterday in my travels. One of the largest costs with getting started in trying to live a self-sufficient life is housing and one way people are trying to get around that is the tiny house movement.

I’m a big fan of the tiny house movement due to the thought process of downsizing and simplifying your life, but the thought of living in 140 square feet does not get me excited at all. Besides the fact that most of the ones being sold commercially are 40,000 to 60,000 dollars. That’s a lot of money for not a heck of a lot of space and not too many people in today’s world have that just laying around.

I was driving out to the farm to pick up our new piglets  and drove by this sitting on the side of the road.

So being an inquisitive person, I just naturally had to stop and talk to the people about it. They informed me it’s called a park model and is designed to go into campgrounds, RV parks, etc.

I had never seen one before so they showed me around and I was very impressed, it has a full kitchen/dinette, bathroom, master bedroom, loft and living room.

I was slightly intrigued, so when I got home from picking up the piglets, I hit up craigslist and this is what I found.

So for less than the cost of a new car a single person, retired couple, someone looking for a get away spot,  or a young couple just starting out, these might be a cheaper option to start following their dreams, especially if they don’t have the tools or knowledge to build something themselves. Which can be a stumbling point for quite a few people.
