I found this electric fencing on CL. I wonder if a single strand of this would be enough for cattle -- it seems a single line is good enough for horses. Thoughts?

I would run two strands, I would also be concerned with using used wire, you don't know if there is a break somewhere which can create huge headaches for you. I usually run new tape every year just for that reason and it is relatively cheap. I had posted this before, you have a lot less acreage, but might give you some ideas to set up rotational grazing

I would used welded wire and t-posts, run electric at 6 and 24 inches and you can have two grazing plots set up, then just move one weekly.

I would have a central "barn" with a 20 x 20 paddock and rotate the grazing around it.

Would be the cheapest way to do it.

I would still run strands around the whole area though as a buffer zone if either got out. That's basically the direction we have gone, after dealing with the pigs escaping two years ago, we have several layers now where even if they get out, they have to get through a second layer.

No, fencing is way out of my league right now. We are just treading water with other projects and throwing in a huge bovine would not go over well. I want to get a dog first and see how we do caring for a much smaller mammal.

Speaking of which -- is my French Bulldog in the mail?

I bet they are going to be big money based off of what I see on local listings. Probably too rich for my blood.

Here are my dog requirements:

  • Smaller
  • Low shed
  • Good with kids
  • Easily house-broken
  • Good behavior when we are away
  • Etc.

From what people tell me the type of dog I want doesn't exist or requires lots of hard work.

I would imagine 1000 based off what she paid and the breed.
