Make sure you stock up on some band aids before going at that sticker patch. How do you plan on clearing it? Shovel and machete?
I wore my carhart overalls and jacket, and some heavy duty gloves from lincoln electric. I basically used a big pair of hedge clippers and a soil rake to clear everything up. I'll have to wait until i can get back down there to take some pics tho, my phone died while I was out today working.
It looks really good tho, and I freed up a really nice area back there so we have a lot more garden room now than I planned on having this winter. Food production 2013 here we come!
This is what most of that mess looks like. These things are brutal man, and they are everywhere out here.
These brambles are the bane of my existence.
The vegetation out here will take over in a matter of weeks if not constantly attacked.

A view of all the raised beds in there now. Most of these need a bit of repair, and eventually I will want to replace them entirely, but for this year were gonna just patch 'em up and work with them. I plan on adding a second row of raised beds (probably only one 6 or 8 inch board high) just to the left, all the way down the row.
There are several reasons I built these beds this way.
I just fill them with manure and sand, mix it and the bed is ready to plant. The depth is great for root vegetables. But mostly the idea was that when I'm eighty, I can just sit my old but on the edge and not have to bend over or get down on my knees!
We used old scrap lumber, and they are falling apart now. They lasted five years. I also had hoops over them for row covers and plastic in the winter and had some pretty good success with over wintering some veggies
